I vividly remember buying my first copy of The Hobbit.  We were in Tesco in Sheerness and I was 10 or 11.  There was one of those whirly things with books on and I picked up The Hobbit.  It’s been one of my favourite books ever since.  I have long dreamed of having my own Hobbit Hole…

The Hobbit was written in the 1930’s by J R R Tolkien.  A first edition of The Hobbit can fetch in excess of £20,000.  The best I’ve managed so far is a second edition.  Only worth a few hundred but a beloved part of my collection!

My little collection of hardback Hobbits

The black one is the first edition paperback

It wasn’t until the 1950’s that the Lord of the Rings trilogy began to be published.  And all these books have remained in print ever since.
The world that Tolkien created is so fantastic that these books have become must reads and therefore highly collectable.
I have been buying and selling Lord of the Rings books for some years now.  I have been buying and not selling The Hobbit for as long!!!!  I just can’t seem to part with them.
