Taking a quick break from Mrs Beeton this month and seeking out other vintage forgotten recipes. Today we made Desdemona buns!  

You will need (for six buns)

   
 
For the buns:-

  • 4 Oz plain flour
  • 3 Oz butter
  • 3 Oz caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • Vanilla essence 

For the filling:-

  • 1/2 lb icing sugar
  • 2 Oz melted butter
  • 1 Tbs milk
  • Vanilla essence 

 

Cream the butter and sugar together


 

Add the eggs, sifted flour and baking powder and mix together well

  
 

Put the mixture into greased tins, I used my Pyrex Ramekins

 

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 230 / 8. 

Check with a skewer whether they are cooked right through.  

Leave to cool. 

Make the icing by stirring all the ingredients together in a bowl. 

Once cool take the top off of the bun and scoop out some of the inside, fill with mixture and put the top back on!

   

   

And serve!
