I’ve started a baking blog to explore some vintage recipes. To re-look at some classics and to remember some long forgotten favourites. When I talked to my mother in law about my idea she suggested that my first effort be shortbread as this was hers.
So here is a 1970 shortbread recipe from The Homepride Book of Baking.
You will need
- 150 grammes plain flour
- Pinch of salt
- 100 grammes butter
- 50 grammes castor sugar
- Egg yolk
- Greased baking tray
Pre-heat the oven to 325f / gas mark 3 / 170c

Roll out the mixture on a floured surface and use pastry cutters to produce biscuit shapes. Place biscuits on a baking sheet or in a pyrex spacesacer
Bake in the preheated oven for an hour until golden and firm. After a few minutes turn out onto a wire rack to cool.
And serve with tea!
Will be trying this for sure, love shortbread !!
